Bio

Jane Jin Kaisen is a visual artist working in a project-based manner within the mediums of film, video installation, performance and text. From a transnational feminist and postcolonial perspective, she is interested in the re-writing of history and official narratives in order to suggest new genealogies and readings.

She holds an MA in Art Theory and Communication from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studio Art from University of California Los Angeles, and participated in The Whitney Museum of American Art Independent Study Program.

Jane Jin Kaisen’s solo exhibition “Dissident Translations” is currently on view at Aarhus Art Building in Denmark and her work “Reiterations of Dissent”, which won the Montana ENTERPRIZE 2011 is on view at the triennial talent exhibition ENTER II at Kunsthallen Brandts. From December, she will be on a four months artist residency at Townhouse Gallery in Cairo together with artist Guston Sondin-Kung.

Jane Jin presented her work in various contexts in Europe, Asia, the United States, Canada, and South America, such as Fokus Video Art Festival Kunsthallen Nikolaj, ACTS! – Museum of Contemporary Art Roskilde and Traces – The National Museum of Photography in Denmark, Rethinking Nordic Colonialism, the Faroe Islands, In the Act: As we Speak: Malmö Konsthall and The Dialogic Imagination at IASPIS in Sweden, Act Out – Performative Video by Nordic Women Artists in Portugal, Infr´action 2010 and Bandits-Mages Art Video and Multi- Media Festival in France, The 2009 Incheon Women Artists’ Biennale and Jeju Women’s Film Festival in South Korea, Yamagata International Documentary Film Festival, Kyoto Museum of Art and Kyoto Art Center in Japan, Taiwan International Documentary Film Festival, IIPAE at the National Gallery in Indonesia, 4th DaDao Live Art Festival and 7th and 10t Open International Performance Art Festival at 798 Art Zone in Beijing, Hong Kong International Short Film & video Festival, Vox Populi in Philadelphia, Exquisite Crisis and Encounters at N.Y.U, AHL Exhibition at Gana Art, Live Action New York, and 25th Asian Pacific Film Festival in the United States, Gallerie La Centrale in Montreal and The 2nd Deformes Biennale at Gallery Metropolitana in Chile.

Besides her individual art practice, Jane Jin Kaisen is part of the artist unit itinerant_
sends_for itinerant with artist Guston Sondin-Kung, co-founder of UFOlab (unidentified object LABoratory), co-founder of Chamber of Public Secrets, curator of week 6 of the 10th Open International Performance Art Festival in Beijing 2009, co-curator of Generous Gestures with Tijana Miskovic at Den Frie Udstilingsbygning Copenhagen 2011.
